Land Use and Transportation Planning - Signature Project

Barrington Street Transit Priority - Bus Bulge Study

This study was initiated in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, based on Metro Transit's commitment to provide a higher level of transit service in the downtown area. Bus bulges were proposed jointly as a transit priority measure and to improve pedestrian amenities along Barrington Street. The study involved a literature review and development of a micro-model of the road and transit operations before and after bus bulge implementation. The model selected for this study was VISSIM, which allowed the study team to create an animated fly through that illustrated road user behavior through the entire roadway corridor.
