Fallowfield Road Driver Simulator Project
The work carried out in this project dealt with the need to better understand driver warning and information needs at a complex combined at-grade railway/transitway crossing in Ottawa, Canada. The project was the first of its kind in Canada to use a Driving Simulator (working with Human Factors North and the University of Calgary's Driving Simulator (UCDS) and a representative sample of drivers to help refine the design of key elements of the positive guidance plan for this crossing. The findings of the project not only contributed to an improved positive guidance plan, but also helped us build a greater understanding of driver needs (and limitations) in a complex and atypical rail-crossing environment.
