Macroscopic Analysis - Signature Project

HDBC Cross-Harbour Needs Assessment Study

As part of the overall evaluation of the need for a third harbour crossing of Halifax harbour for the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission, our Transportation Systems Analysis team carried out a technical review and analysis using a macro-level travel demand model for various horizon years and road network scenarios. The existing HRM baseline model was converted to the VISUM software environment, and growth forecasts were developed to determine the vehicular and transit demands across the harbour. It was determined that a third crossing will be required and that planning for this crossing should commence immediately.
