Multidisciplinary Research & Development/Special Projects - Signature Project

Highway 7 Transition Zone: Road Safety and Human Factors Study

As part of the detailed design of the Highway 7 Expansion for the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, Delphi-MRC in association with Human Factors North conducted a comprehensive review and assessment of 4-lane freeway to 4-lane urban transition treatments on the approach to signalized intersections. The study focused on the examination of existing examples of similar transitions as a means of building a more comprehensive understanding of design and operations factors that most directly affect safety outcomes of those situations.

Results from this road safety and human factors review were used to develop a set of application heuristics for the design of freeway transitions to signalized intersections.
